FAQ
How would you describe your work?
Our work centers around art, emotion, composition — with added editorial and cinematic touches. Conceptually, we pull together elements of the human experience, texture and tonality, and most importantly, the language of light — how it can influence a scene, create patterns, or inspire a feeling of nostalgia.
Where are you based? Do you travel for weddings and if so, what are the fees and who handles the booking?
I am based in Los Angeles, but travel to New England often during the wedding season and will happily jump in a car or bus or plane to come photograph you. If you're getting married outside the state of California, travel fees are already included in the wedding quote I send to you. I always make sure to fly in two days before your date to make sure there isn't anything travel-related that could impact your coverage.
Of course — you're always welcome to plan your session or elopement here in Southern California and create a trip around having your photos taken. California is a pretty incredible place with tons of landscapes and national parks that I recommend considering as your backdrop.
Can you help us during the planning process?
Absolutely! Not only have I been photographing weddings for six years, but I know the industry as both a vendor and a bride. I know how stressful it can be and how many questions you have to answer and decisions you have to make. I am available to help you in any way I can — building a wedding timeline, recommending my favorite industry folks, answering questions about light and location, or even just meeting over a glass of wine.
What's the benefit of having a first look?
A first look is a wonderful opportunity to spend some time with your significant other after being apart for most of the morning — to soak in those intimate and loving just you moments before the main event. Having a first look also makes your wedding timeline more adaptable so you to get a head start on your wedding and family portraits before the ceremony — giving you the flexibility to attend and enjoy your cocktail hour with your guests.
Lastly, you’ll receive more photos of you and your love.
Do you shoot film?
I do, sometimes! I first learned photography using film. It began with photographing friends with disposable kodaks and evolved into developing personal film in the darkroom. I learned that shooting with film is an artistic decision and one that takes time. I have a couple toy film cameras in my tool box at shooting weddings (right now, just shooting a roll or two just for fun) — but I am hoping to integrate the style more seamlessly into wedding coverage for my couples in the future.
Do you offer Super 8?
Adding reels of Super 8 is available for weddings. Our Super 8 films are are known for their soft focus, dreamy hues, and distinct retro charm. This analog medium delivers an authentic quality that’s nearly impossible to replicate with digital tools — making it ideal for preserving sentimental moments in an artful and timeless way. With its visible film grain, light leaks, and imperfect detail, Super 8 brings a raw and nostalgic romance to your story.
How many weddings do you photograph each year?
In order to maintain quality of work and provide a full immersive experience from start to finish — our studio only photographs and films 10-15 weddings a year.
So why should we fly you out over hiring a local photographer?
You shouldn't feel limited to hire someone local just because it's simpler. I love traveling for weddings — it's one of the perks of the job (aside from wedding cake) and i've developed the ability to shoot in unfamiliar places by sourcing the best light and getting inspired by the beauty of the area. It's all about fresh perspective and what sets me apart from other photographers. By seeing your location or wedding venue in a new light, I can document your day from a truly authentic perspective that will completely reflect your own experience.
Do you shoot with a second photographer?
I can if you'd like! About half my clients request a second photographer to help document their day. It's great to have two sets of hands on location to document each moment from every angle. I have a great collective of visual artists with their own unique vision and style, yet driven by a mutual pursuit of effortlessly elevated, yet relaxed storytelling.
What's the payment schedule look like?
I require 30% retainer to secure your spot. Once that's received, your date is officially on my calendar. The remaining payments can be split up between one or two more installments, with the final one due a month in advance for weddings. Engagement and family clients pay their remaining payments three days prior to their session date.
Can you tell us more about how engagement sessions work?
Engagement sessions are such an important aspect of your wedding process. It's a time for you to share who you are as a couple and document your essence and your quirks. I believe this process is a collaborative one, and together we can identify what poses or moments speak to you as a couple and bring out the foundation of your relationship.
I'm here to help be a guide, scout for the best light, highlight your emotions, but most importantly to observe and find amusement in who you two are. If you're wondering what to wear to an engagement session, I have a style guide i'd be happy to share with you!
